It is believed that a moderate and appropriate amount of red wine would be one 5-ounce glass of wine a day for women of all ages as well as men who are older than 65. For men that are 65 and younger, the appropriate amount of wine would be 2 glasses a day (10 ounces in total). It is best that people avoid alcohol completely if they are pregnant, have a family history of alcoholism, take certain medications, have heart failure, or have any sort of liver or pancreas disease that may be associated with alcohol.
